Already recognized as one of the world’s leading aviation and aerospace regions, the Gulf Coast got a significant boost with the recent announcement that Airbus will build a $600 million manufacturing facility to produce the family of A320 aircraft. The new facility, which will produce between 40 and 50 aircraft annually when in full production (estimated in 2018), will be built in Mobile, Alabama, approximately one hour from the western boundary of Northwest Florida. In addition to providing opportunities for existing Northwest Florida companies to serve the Airbus plant, Northwest Florida is ideally positioned to attract supplier companies that will need to be located in reasonable proximity (but not so close to compete for labor) to Mobile.
