Hy-Lite Products, a division of U.S. Block Windows since March 2009, has lowered its production costs and improved lead-times by relocating its molding operation from China to its company headquarters and 70,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Pensacola, Florida.

Hy-Lite Products molds acrylic architectural blocks for use in privacy windows, indoor radius walls and partitions. The previous owners had moved the acrylic block manufacturing to China and Canada  several years ago, primarily to save costs. However, according to Roger Murphy, Hy-Lite’s president, as the price of oil rose, so did shipping costs, effectively eradicating any financial savings to the company. In addition, manufacturing overseas involved a long, complex supply chain and complicated inventory planning and forecasting, thereby straining Hy-Lite’s flexibility in serving its customers.

The vinyl extrusions for Hy-Lite window frames are also manufactured in the U.S. instead of China, and, most recently, Hy-Lite has expanded its services to include the window replacement business. Products from Hy-Lite and U.S. Block Windows are sold through building material suppliers, window dealers and distributors throughout the United States, with, many of the company’s products shipped and distributed in Canada, Australia, Japan and Mexico.
