Overview

  • The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport, Bay Line and CSX rail, Interstate 10, and Port Panama City, which serves as a foreign trade zone, provide Bay County with a unique transportation infrastructure.
  • The West Bay Sector Plan is a 75,000 acre, multi-use, master planned development anchored by the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport. Venture Crossings Enterprise Centre is the first phase of development, accommodating industrial, commercial and retail space.
  • Bay County is home to Tyndall Air Force Base, headquarters to the Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, which has the sole responsibility for ensuring the air sovereignty and air defense for the continental United States, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, as well as Naval Support Activity Panama City, which hosts the following research-related units: Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City, Navy Experimental Diving Unit, Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, and the Center for Navy Ordnance Disposal and Diving.

Data Sources and Calculations

Industry Data 
In order to capture a complete picture of industry employment, EMSI basically combines covered employment data from Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) produced by the Department of Labor with total employment data in Regional Economic Information System (REIS) published by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), augmented with County Business Patterns (CBP) and Nonemployer Statistics (NES) published by the U.S. Census Bureau. Projections are based on the latest available EMSI industry data, 15-year past local trends in each industry, growth rates in statewide and (where available) sub-state area industry projections published by individual state agencies, and (in part) growth rates in national projections from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
