Overview

  • Located proximate to the urban amenities of Panama City, Gulf County offers the best of both worlds. Numerous commercial and industrial sites and buildings are available, as well as an unparalleled quality of life among quaint, picturesque small towns and miles of white sand beaches along the Gulf Coast.
  • Transportation infrastructure includes a barge facility at the Port of Port St. Joe, offering direct access to both the Gulf of Mexico and the Intracoastal Waterway. In addition to the Port of Port St. Joe, the county is also served by the A&N Railroad, a shortline railroad connecting the Port to CSX, as well as Highway 71, which provides north/south connections to Interstate 10.
  • Gulf County is one of eight counties in the Northwest Florida Rural Area of Critical Economic Concern (RACEC). These counties are organized as Opportunity Florida and are eligible to offer aggressive tax incentives to new and expanding industries. The county has several industrial parks and industrially zoned sites, some with direct water access ideal for marine-related industries.

Data Sources and Calculations

Industry Data
In order to capture a complete picture of industry employment, EMSI basically combines covered employment data from Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) produced by the Department of Labor with total employment data in Regional Economic Information System (REIS) published by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), augmented with County Business Patterns (CBP) and Nonemployer Statistics (NES) published by the U.S. Census Bureau. Projections are based on the latest available EMSI industry data, 15-year past local trends in each industry, growth rates in statewide and (where available) sub-state area industry projections published by individual state agencies, and (in part) growth rates in national projections from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
