Northwest Florida is home to a significant concentration of Air Force and Navy installations, including Naval Air Station Pensacola, Naval Air Station Whiting Field, Naval Support Activity Panama City, Eglin Air Force Base, Hurlburt Field, and Tyndall Air Force Base. It is estimated that Department of Defense spending accounts for 178,758 jobs in Northwest Florida, with 43,729 military and 19,873 personnel employed at the region's military installations. The military influence is not only apparent in the highly skilled and dedicated workforce, but in the communities where military families raise their children and contribute their time to volunteer service.

Eglin Air Force Base

Eglin Air Force Base, geographically the U.S. Air Force's largest base, is home to Duke Field and a myriad of research and development activities. Eglin’s Air Armament Center is the focal point for all Air Force armament. The center is responsible for the development, acquisition, testing, and deployment of all air-delivered weapons.

Hurlburt Field

Hurlburt Field's mission is to support the training and execution of special operations such as unconventional warfare, special reconnaissance, counter proliferation, foreign internal defense, information operations, psychological operations, civil affairs and combating terrorism worldwide.

Naval Support Activity Panama City

Naval Support Activity Panama City hosts many research related units.

  • Center for Navy Ordnance Disposal and Diving

Pensacola Naval Air Station

Naval Air Station Pensacola, home of the Blue Angels, is recognized as the premier naval installation in the Department of the Navy. NAS Pensacola is primarily dedicated to the training of Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel in naval aviation.

Primary Units Include:
  • Naval Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory
  • Naval Operational Medicine Institute
  • Naval Education and Training Command (NETC), Saufley Field
  • Training Wing Six
  • Center for Information Dominance (CID), Corry Station
  • USAF 313th Training Squadron (Intelligence and Information Warfare)

Tyndall Air Force Base

Tyndall Air Force Base is headquarters to the Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region – First Air Force, which has the sole responsibility for ensuring the air sovereignty and air defense of the continental United States, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

  • 325th Fighter Wing
  • Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency
  • 16th Electronic Warfare Squadron
  • 53rd Weapons Evaluation Group

Whiting Field

Naval Air Station Whiting Field seeks to provide the best services and material support for the training of U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and International student aviators. Over 1,200 personnel complete their essential flight training at NAS Whiting Field annually.

  • Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Detachment (CNATT DET) Milton
